The two songs written for the Brian Auger album were commissioned by Jim Mullen, the Oblivion Express guitarist at the time.

"The process of writing with Jim was the exact reverse of writing with Roger Bunn. When I worked with Roger, the lyrics were written prior to the music, and hence influenced the structure and settings of the tunes. With Jim, however, his subtle jazz inflected tunes were written first and my lyrics had to exactly fit the notation and be appropriate to the mood of each piece. It was stretching to work like that; my twin aim was to produce words that had the realism, integrity and disciplines of poetry and complemented, and, hopefully, enhanced the mood of Jim's music.
I had long been a fan of Brian Auger and this commission was an ambition realized." John Mackie 2005

All The Time There Is:

Is a simple evocation of a young man's hopeful (unspoken) interior monologue flowing from waking up the morning after having made love with a young woman for the first time. The questing woman in question was called Maggie Sullivan, and it transpired that 'all the time there was' was about a month.

Women Of The Seasons: Was written in London and Ibiza, and reflects a situation in which John had two simultaneous loves - one in Notting Hill, London and the other at C'an Calomar, Sta Eulalia, Ibiza. Originally called North and South Women, the final title more accurately reflects the self-serving hedonism at the root of both relationships.
